0000143: PHP Warning: key parameter is not a valid public key (function.openssl-public-decrypt function.openssl-private-encrypt)

Description

I get two warnings:

a. PHP Warning:
openssl_public_decrypt() [<a href='function.openssl-public-decrypt'>function.openssl-public-decrypt</a>]: key parameter is not a valid public key in ../mod/dfrn_confirm.php on line 585

which seems to happen when I get this:
xml_status returning non_zero: 1 message=The ID provided by your system is a duplicate on our system. It should work if you try again.

b.
PHP Warning: openssl_private_encrypt() [<a href='function.openssl-private-encrypt'>function.openssl-private-encrypt</a>]: key param is not a valid private key in ../mod/dfrn_poll.php on line 445
PHP Warning: openssl_private_encrypt() [<a href='function.openssl-private-encrypt'>function.openssl-private-encrypt</a>]: key param is not a valid private key in ../mod/dfrn_poll.php on line 446

which seems to happen (?) when I get this:

dfrn_poll: secure profile: challenge: expecting <snip>
dfrn_poll: secure profile: sec: expecting <snip>

nothing more done, on request I can provide the detailed logs by email
also tell if this should be splitted into 2 issues
